One of several ways to increase your computer speed, we need to give the IRQ (Interrupt Request) priority that may be many functions and hardware in the computer system. The Windows Xp will access to various subsystems for running an application. Setting the IRQ priority sorts the subsystem running in order to increase the system performance. Normally we give the priority to the System CMOS that is number 8 of IRQ number. This number is related to I/O performance that we can enhance it by giving the priority of IRQ. Generally I give the priority by editing the registry. I create DWORD like IRQ8Priority. The “8″ number can be changed to any IRQ number but I recommend setting it to be 8 only. For other numbers I cannot guarantee your computer functioning. Anyways, now you know how the IRQs function your computer system so I let you do the steps below for giving priority in IRQ number 8 .
- Go to Start > Run .
- Type regedit then click Ok.
- Find the path below in Registry Editor window …
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\PriorityControl
- Right click on PriorityControl folder and choose new > DWORD Value .
- Name the DWORD to IRQ8Priority and set the Value data to be 1.
- Restart the Windows Xp.

THIS IS A MYTH - Does nothing
The origin of this “tweak” is unknown and Microsoft has never mentioned it. But one thing is certain, the author knew nothing of computer hardware.
Why IRQ 8? XP has little use for the real time clock IRQ, some systems don’t use it at all. As for the CMOS, XP has virtually no need to access it after bootup. If this tweak actually worked why was it not set by default?
Don’t waste your time on this one.
